The Final Countdown - to Eurovision

Someone at the Gaza rally in Bristol on Saturday suggested that Israel should be banned from this year's Eurovision Song Contest. While you're pondering that you might want to look at today's featured video (five stars no less!) on the official site for Moscow 2009, and reflect on the days when we actually used to win things.

Eurovision has been nothing more than a political w**k-fest for a good few years now, and Terry Wogan was right to quit.

Don't get me wrong, I think the music has always been utter crap, no matter what nation it comes from, including ourselves, and you always used to get the same countries voting for eachother, but now it's just ridiculous.

Didn't it used to be something everyone watched at one point? How times have changed. I wouldn't be surprised if it's relegated to Channel 5 this year.

I think they've changed the rules this year, so it's not just the public vote but also a panel of 'experts' (presumably experts with very bad musical taste, otherwise it will be nul points all round).

It would be more of a collective punishment to make them stay in Eurovision.

Perhaps they should have to compulsorily broadcast it on every channel?
